The special significance of National Day, 2 September

2 September each year is Vietnam’s National Day, also known as Independence Day. It commemorates the day President Ho Chi Minh read the Declaration of Independence at Ba Dinh Square, Hanoi, on 2 September 1945, proclaiming the birth of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam.

This is one of the most important milestones in Vietnam’s modern history, opening a new chapter for the nation and becoming a holiday of special significance for every Vietnamese person.

Since 1954, 2 September has officially been called National Day. Each year, the holiday is not only a time to look back on historical values, but also a time for families to rest, reunite and spend time with their loved ones.
